Re: Taking Over Project as Team Leader
Jirito - PM me your email and I'll get you set up for the SVN server.
Considering that it wouldn't be too difficult to move and it wouldn't cost you anything, I vote that we move. I can take some time this weekend to archive some of the old forums and discussions about places and storylines to the SVN server, just so we have it in case we need it for future reference.

Yeah, just give me a couple days to get things set up on my own site and I will get things taken care of for it.
cmh0114, can you add me to the SVN server as well?

Re: Taking Over Project as Team Leader
Hey everyone,
Hope everything is good with you guys, If I don't post a lot on these forums from now on, its because I'm busy with school since I am going through my last semester of college and things are getting busy. But I will still try to get stuff done in this project whenever I can.

Re: Taking Over Project as Team Leader
Quick update on getting the new forums. I'm fixing some domain errors that are happening with me and my host, but a new site and forums should be up once that is resolved.
I am thinking of perhaps throwing together a small site that could have some information about the game as well as perhaps a small bio about everyone who is working on it to some degree.
Any support for this at all? If not, I won't waste my time and will simply get the forums and all that taken care of even faster.

contribution: conception of design and direction... basically, I helped to sharpen the sword of imagination that was formed from Mags and Neti's desire to create a homemade RPG, providing a long list of main characters (actually mostly side characters), monsters, race concepts, weapons and their histories (or at least noteworthy details)... some may argue that my most notable contribution is merely being the one who dragged Jirito, our star artist, into the fold. I won't argue against that. That was pretty awesome.
onsite status: Just as with Eyeson, wherein I quickly grew envious of members who became Cid's Knights (forum moderators), I was initially perturbed at not having a genuine title of my own. In fact, I don't think Jirito has one either. But, as with Eyeson, there's admittedly little that I actually contribute.
sidenote: It's really not my place to mention but if it were my responsibility to hand out titles, I think I'd choose Lead Script Writer for BG-57 and Graphics Design Team for Jirito and daniel price (er, is he still here? Oh, and were there other guys working primarily with graphics? It's been a while.)
my feelings about Project n00b:
Someone once pointed out that n00b takes a lot from Final Fantasy. Okay.
Project n00b is not necessarily a venture into marketing a unique creation, it's basically the beginning of an alpha, a practice run at making something of our own. Since a large number of collaborators on this site met via EOFF, it's natural we'll use FF as a reference for ideas and terminology so that the group as a whole will have a better understanding of what we're trying to achieve.
Magixion and NewTifa, I believe, were the initial collaborators who recruited us to delve into the fun of imagineering a game of our own. BG-57 provided the title, setting, plot, and primary antagonists, Neti and I provided primary protagonists and excess characters (and notable weapons). I can't speak for Beej or Neti, but yes, I personally draw a lot of inspiration from FF. However, when I imagine n00b, I don't draw correlations to FF at all. I see it as it's own being maturing slowly into a cohesive and entertaining distraction from reality.
Many ideas from n00b can be referred to as being similar to ideas explored in FF (or used previously by FF), however, FF in itself is not solely unique. Many of it's own ideas were not original in their conception. We get ideas from varying sources whether they be books, games, internet, movies, or conversation. As I mentioned earlier, however, I typically refer back to FF, not because I think they are some kind of pinnacle to strive for but because they are what I'm most familiar with and I find it easier to explain my ideas using FF as a reference.
If you think about it, nearly every installation of FF in and of itself was just the same game with a new look. They all centered around or at least featured crystals crucial to the support of human life (though in VII, the crystals weren't as important as the Lifestream that created them). So far, I see no mention of crystals whatsoever in n00b, though I may have merely missed it. In any case, the most important thing for n00b right now is that we actually get it done. We can return to semantics later.
- About the Game:
- As the title is a work in progress (and probably best not revealed to the public anyway) I'll just refer to it as Project n00b or Pn. Pn so far takes place in a highly religious land. Warring factions, acolytes, heretics, science, magic, monsters, and gods... pretty much your standard fair for a RPG. Where some games may fail to distinguish themselves due to familiar stories, settings, or characters, I hope we'll be able to dodge that same bullet by interweaving various articles of subtext that will allow our story, our heroes, our villains, and, in fact, the entirety of the world we're creating to ingratiate themselves into the minds and hearts of our target audience. As for whom that is... well, at the moment, I'm certain this story is not for little kids. Aside from that, I don't see our range as being particularly limited quite yet.

Re: Taking Over Project as Team Leader
Roger that. Thanks for the input and your contribution for that Mercen-x and Zerobu. I will begin getting the site set up and then will ask for more about the bios and such when the time comes. Let's keep this alive and get this project back on track to where it needs to be.
Re: Taking Over Project as Team Leader
So, hey... you are going to put up a link when this thing is ready, right?
Are we supposed to be moving our project to a new website? 'Cause I don't want to be persistently checking back here if this site has spontaneously lost locomotion.

Re: Taking Over Project as Team Leader
Yes, I am planning to archive these forums and then carry most of it over to a new host and site. I am just waiting for some issues with my host and domain names to get fixed before that is done. I wills end out a forum-wide email alerting everyone about this change when it goes into effect.
Re: Taking Over Project as Team Leader
Magixion, did you ever get those problems resolved?
