I'm afraid I haven't contributed as much as I should (well, haven't really contributed at all). But! I don't have as much on my plate now, so I should be able to help out a bunch more. Very Happy

Not a Happy Camper

Post by BG-57 on Mon May 11, 2009 6:12 am

I found this month's newsletter unecessary and offensive. I can understand your frustrations with how long the writing process can take, but to call in to question the writing team's competance is not an effective way to motivate us.

What happened to this notion of teamwork and solidarity in this project? Aren't we supposed to be encouraging each other here? Light a fire under us by all means but don't resort to demeaning our skills to get there.

I am not a confrontational person by nature and I value harmony over conflict. But I found this deeply upsetting. pale

Insult leads to argument, I agree. If accusations are to be made they'll surely be reflected. Anyway, I didn't actually get the newsletter, maybe I just need to check my eMail, but considering the novice-to-amateur level of we who are on this project, I'd say it's doing pretty well. You can't expect a well-put-together story/plot/design to pop up out of thin air.

I wasn't questioning your competence. I was merely wondering if we were going about the process wrong, that's why I set the deadline. With all this jumble on the forums, it's very hard to understand wtf is going on with the storyline, hence the deadline.

I did get my 5 sentence summary, so that newsletter served it's purpose. Plus, it's sent to everyone who is a member, so they are reminded if they haven't posted in a while. I'm just upset that it's basically just the 3 of us posting. I wanted more involvement.

It may have served it purpose, but at what cost? You asked if we knew how to write. You suggested if we were your employees, we would be fired. Is this how a newsletter should read? Should this motivate us?

Notice that as soon as you made a request for a summery, you got one. Requests that are clearly stated will be much easier to fufill. That's the most important point.

Re: 2 month anniversary.

I do apologize for my absence, but I have been hammered with school. You have to realize that this is a voluntary service and I have 24 credit hours of schooling to juggle with as well as this project. Tifa, you of all people, being a coder, should know that things take time. You can't just throw everything together and hope for the best. I can tell you right now that if we were to try and throw what we have of the story into a game as is, there would be a ton of continuity errors as well as a confusing as hell storyline for most players out there.

Once again, I do apologize for my absence but my school load has lightened up as of today and I plan on getting as much work done with this as I can. Especially in the next 3-4 weeks I will have a whole month off of nothing to do and can get some hardcore work done.

To be honest, though, I do not think it is fair to put down your fellow team members and question their work ethic. To be fair, I know it is frustrating, but we can't dedicate our entire time to this project and it is unfair for you to ask that of us.

What we should take from this little bump in the road is that we should be understanding of each other as we have no idea what else is going on in each other's lives.

(On a side note, I love the gadgets you added, Tifa.)

I've asked for a summary. I've told you guys I wanted to know what you guys are putting together, but I've been getting unclear answers. I don't expect you guys to put 23 hours of every day aside. I expect, however, to get this done before I die. Like I said, I asked several times for a general outline of the story. Since their was already a script up, I assumed that you knew what the storyline was. I got my summary, and now I'm happy. I'm just disappointed in the lack of energy lately. I figured you had all given up. Gomennassai.

A large part of writing is thinking, developing and modifying, before a word is written down. It's hard to measure that in concrete terms. So more progress has been made than it appears.

I have no intention of giving up, but I didn't understand what you wanted. Now that I do, it's simple enough to do.

As others have said, it might be better to make a less offensive newletter the next time. I haven't helped very much yet, but that's because
A) I have TONS, and I mean TONS of homework from school
B) Have other hobbies, and
C) am not always motivated enough to continuously work on large-scale projects like this.

If anyone would like me to help with something, that's fine, just ask. I will either say that I'll gladly make some progress, or reply that I'm too busy with other stuff.

So there ya go...

That is exactly how I am, though I know I basically helped get this project rolling, so I am going to dedicate as much time as I can to keep this a float. Once we have some more concrete things done, we can split up job positions and tasks so it will be a lot easier to get things done.

I'm the same way, but I try to put effort into this site. I rearranged it, added stuff, and so on. Le sigh. Yea, I need to do my calc homework. >_>

I'll need your xenobiology expertise for the later sections of the game script when we introduce Mater Obscura and Pater Aurum.
