What Else Have You Worked On?

Post by BG-57 on Fri Mar 27, 2009 3:47 pm

I thought it might be interesting to see what else we've done besides this.

I've made Crimson Cadre twice, once in RPG Maker and once in RPG Maker 3. I finished the storylines, but not the monsters, fighting, items etc... I tend to find those aspect of game creation tedious.

I did most of the game scripting for a sequel of FFX-2, called FFX-3 (LNA) on EoFF. It was fun to write, but the project petered out.

I've written quite a few fanfictions, mainly posted on fanfiction.net, using the same pen name. Several are FF-themed:

Death Penalty is an alternate post-game story with Vincent as the main character. He discovers a way to free Lucretia, but it comes as a terrible cost. Since it was pre-AC, I had to guess who got to come back from the previous game. I guessed wrong.

Princess Guard is a sequel to DP that explores what it would've been like if Aeris had joined the Turks.

Alma Mater is about the Fayth of Anima promising Tidus a way to take Yuna to Zanarkand. A sort of be-careful-what-you-wish-for story.

Dance Macabre is a sequel to AM, that shows FFX-2 from Tidus' perspective. It provides a lot of backstory for the Fayth.

I've tried to do FFVIII fanfics, but I'm not entirely happy with them. The best one so far is Queen of the Night, which deals with Ultimecia's backstory. No, it's not R=U. I had to make a big assumption that Griever was not created a moment before the final battle with Squall because I picture that Griever is the only creature that Ultimecia can really talk to. I freely admit that I was heavily influenced by the SW prequel trilogy.

I've done lots of things, actually more than I can remember. Though none of these projects have ever taken feet off the ground because of a lack of programming skills.

I've invented countless stories and imaginative worlds, with (not so) elaborite names such as Shadow Lore, Cozenia, Volca, and Guryo. I've also made several games with RPGmaker2000, all of which were nearly completed before my computer crashed and all my files were lost Crying or Very sad
I didn't have the motivation to restart them after that.

As a child, I've once invented a story that is probably my best story ever. I would play outside with a couple of kids from the neighbourhood, and we would act out this story together. It was such a powerful tale, my little sister cried at the ending. Ahh... that was lots of fun. Maybe one day I'll convert that story to an actual game.

Re: What Else Have You Worked On?

I've fanficked VII in EoFF WC with the title: Final Fantasy VII: Outcry of Torment. It's a prelude to what I had hoped would be a story that Squee would take into serious consideration and develop most of my ideas into a new game. My fan-seq was called Soldier's Story, which then became Soldier Grows Up, and then finally Nemesis Creed (following the new traditional of placing a letter before C). I've created 22 titles and fleshed out half of them, all of which are --C sequels for FFVII. One of my favorites is EC: Ex Chaotica which features a new breed of mercenary called the Chaotics. Of course, it's basically a rip.

I created a story back before I finished FFVII called Project Valor. The actual title for the game is inspired by Medal of Honor. I've also created a story based around the characteristics of FFVII. I changed the materia to something you had to sacrifice in order to exchange so you'd have to be careful about which person you assigned the magic to. There are non-canon alternate-world sequels to this story just like the real Final Fantasy, there's one based on VIII and IX and one that is completely original along the lines of an FF-title. If anyone has ever seen the anime about a dancing ballerina swan and a world of people without memories... it's kind of like that.
I've even written a slightly more twisted version of Kingdom Hearts appropriately titled Twisted Kingdom. I started to write a sequel but lost interest.
I've also been working very hard on a labrat mutant tale where 10 superpowered individuals join together to form a vigilante corps to seek justice, even the odds against gunning gangs, and to ultimately destroy the company's responsible for their creation. I've got an entire list of "memoirs" as a summary for my intentions. I've successfully written one book that is yet to be followed by a sequel and a sequel-prequel (a sequel that mainly tells stories about the past). That trilogy would complete my run of novels because I'm not fond of writing novels (even if they are mini-novel). I intend to make movies (including a serial killer thriller where you don't quite understand what's happening till the end) and an animated series out of it as well. I've even written songs for a musical episode and I am also planning at least two games (one which is actually styled after Devil May Cry).
Then there's my workload detailed in Riene Carnath's Comprehensive Encyclopedia and Historical Exhibit included in EoFF's Writer's Corner. I originally started adding to the coolest names whatever information was missing like bios (or extensions), weapons, numbers (not complete), and titles (even if they are just for vanity's sake) for the Create Your Own Organization XIII Name found in the KH section. Then I started to add information from my "Ex-Out Disney" version of Kingdom Hearts and started to merge the information together so now I have a pretty cohesive story where I originally had a general idea. I've gone farther with this (what I intend to be) game than with any other, requesting artwork from the talented Ms. Jirito to flesh out my characters in ways my wildest imaginings never allowed. Thanks to Nexas-kun who helped me flesh out two characters who would become the main focus of the game, I have the ability to put together a solid game with slight reminders of KH that includes a follow-up prequel that is way too reminiscent of KH (which cannot be helped and is thusly the reason it needs to be a follow-up so that it can be played specifically by fans). The most attractive feature of this game is that the characters are obviously what appear to be members of Org XIII under a different Org name but this group has secrets, deception and betrayal within the group, mind manipulation, past relationships, and motivations that revealed in the game as you play unlike in KH where we'll likely have to wait to play Days Over Two to find out anything about the members of the XIII.

As far as my own creative works go, I have done a few fanfics that I have never shared with anyone, it was more or less simply a personal hobby to keep me occupied for some time.

All my experience comes in with the programming. I have worked on numerous 4-5 man team projects that I did for classes in school including:

-Table top RPG companion which allows people who are not able to meet in person to play there RPG game. Basically, it includes a chat function, dungeon map, dice roller (able to roll a d10 all the way up to d100), items, your characters, your party, etc. All the essentials. It was actually quite a good companion that I use a lot. It also makes it a hell of a lot easier to manage your characters stats because it keeps a virtual record of it and you can instantaneously change your stats when you level up and what not. This is my pride and joy so far.

-Hotel management software

-Battleship game

-Poker game

-Finance manager software (Think Quicken)

-Various Windows applications including the Game of Life (a fun little programming exercise thing. Wiki it Razz)

What I've, what I'm doing

Post by SixOfEleven on Thu Apr 16, 2009 8:37 pm

I can't recall every programming thing I've done. I've been doing it for over 25 years. Laughing

Recently I've been fooling around with XNA. Made a Asteroids clone, Arkanoid clone.

Started messing around with DirectX and C++.

Started messing around with Managed DirectX and C#.

As to writing, I've published four novels for teens. Endless Night, my first one, a fantasy novel that starts out as a There and Back Again but ends up in a web of intrigue. Shepenopet's Curse, second, sort of a suspence/paranormal. Just a Little Crush, a romatic suspense novel. Eyes Like the Sea, very interesting story. About Natalia, a girl from a foreign realm. Her parents were coming from across the sea to the realm as ambassadors. The ship is hit by a storm and Natalia thinks that she is the only who survived. The first part is about the wonders of the new world. She ends up in a small barony and meets another girl, Heather the princess of the barony, next in line for her father's throne and third in line for the Emporer's throne. The girls become fast friends. There is an attempt on the princess' life, it is foiled by Natalia and is discovered she has incredible potential as a wizard. The Baron tells Natalia that there have been many threats on his and his daughter'ssends them away to try and protect his daughter. The Baron is assassinated and there is a hunt for the girls and a price put on Natalia's head. There is chase across the realm for the girls. Eventually they are captured. Princess Heather is taken back to the barony where she is proclaimed Baroness and is now next in line for the Emperor's throne. She is imprisoned and a doppleganger takes her place. With her out of the way, the court mage who was behind it all, is set to take over the empire. Fortuantely Natalis finds a way to save Heather and she finds that her parent's are alive and in the Capitol.

Now I'm working on tutorials for Dream.In.Code, a blog on C#, on open source RPG in XNA and hopefully help with this project. Smile

Some of the plot reminds me of a story I wrote... Reign of Tara: the Ghosts of Sullomir. A young princess, naturally named Tara, is kidnapped and nearly killed. She is rescued by the "Ghosts"; a secretive band of freedom fighters who've heard wondrous things about Tara. They all soon learn that there is another "Tara" turning the country into a hellmouth. Tara learns to fight as she travels alongside her new friends while trying to dethrone the impostor and restore order to the kingdom. However, Tara begins to lose heart when she learns that most behind the plot are her own family members.

I've also worked on a tourney inspired by Behold the Void's work. It was called Dire Stem and it was a war involving humans and sentient machines. It featured forum-regular created characters such as The Triumphant Hero's Arelis Cannet, Laddy's Gazille Albaska, Advent VII's Trent Versity (whom received way too much time in development... everyone else gave a vague description where this guy got a full page. lol.), and others like Amelia, Kaiser Wyvern, Gerald Kuniper, Izak, and Cira.
The mistake I made was trying to make this so similar to Void's work. I couldn't figure by the bios how the characters would hold up in battle so I tried to use the bios to create playable statistics. Needless to say, I lost interest in that.

I modified a Pong example into Invader Zim Pong for the GBA, for the PC Rock Paper Scissors & Yahtzee.

Yup, I'm that cool.

I've written some system tools too, I'm not much of a game developer. Before this project I thought that I wanted to be, but not any more.

Games can be tough. I enjoy it a lot, but I also enjoying coding and programming websites and other apps too. My full list of projects I have worked on are on LinkedIn:

Plus, I just started another project programming a star trek simulation for a space camp near my hometown.
