Hello, I'm Celerian

Post by Celerian on Thu Sep 30, 2010 5:27 pm

Hello everyone, I'm Celerian.

I saw some of Tifa's postings on D.I.C. and noticed that your project was constantly in different states of activity. I wanted to sign up and see if I couldn't lend myself to your project. My talents are multifaceted, but no where no expert level.

I'm knowledgable with several programming languages: Visual Basic, C++/C#, SQL, Java, etc.
I also dabble with graphics and sound, more on the sound and music end as I've done some composition and remixing for bands like Imperative Reaction, Wumpscut, Nine Inch Nails, Dismantled, KidneyThieves, and more.

I'm interested in lending some time and talent in my free time (I work fulltime as a Database admin and Software Engineer) to your project, and I may have some of my own ideas to share from my own personal experience from college and also spearheading a couple of projects myself.

I'm an avid gamer when I find the time to play. Current vices are primarily World of Warcraft, but I have a softspot for old skool RPGs, puzzle, and strategy games. I have a horribly undermaintenenced website at , which I badly need to begin fixing and updating after a few server transfers and data losses. I welcome any of the project leads to contact me however is best (probably email, since I check that daily) until we cna find a more stable form of communication that suits everyone and we can have a real brainstorming session.

In the mean time, I am going to browse your current information on the project and try to familierize myself with your idea.

Some of the things that I would like to attempt in order to sharpen my own skills is a web-based strategy game such as StarKingdoms, Utopia, Earth 2025 and the like. I used to get a lot of enjoyment out of playing these games, and unfortunately, if they haven't shut down, they've dug themselves into an awful hole by modifying their games to rely on microtransactions and facebook integration.

I would also be interested in creating some single-player/multi-player strategy or trading card games, definately an RPG or two (I might still have the concept drafts from a 3 part RPG game that I was working on by myself called Eien), and more.

However, I noticed a lot of talk about using XNA, which if I understand is game development software for the Xbox360. While I have a Xbox360 myself (it was a hacked machine and has been banned), I'm not really keen on starting out with developing for the XBox system unless there were some serious merit in it.

In lieu of making this introduction way too long and boring, I'm going to cut myself off and just say that I look forward to speaking with you all, hopefully give you some new motivation, and maybe learn some things while teaching others what I know. Collaboration is magical.

Welcome aboard Celerian.

You won't be able to see what's been done so far until you get developer's access, but I hope you can help with the coding. Things are quiet at the moment, but there has been a lot of neat stuff already done.
